Dive into Moreton Bay’s Talent Pool

From sculptors to print-makers  – Moreton Bay is home to an eclectic mix of artists who have been brought together for Council’s first ever region-wide art exhibition, Talent Pool. Talent Pool will showcase works by artists from Caboolture, Pine Rivers and Redcliffe districts. The nine exhibiting artists have each contributed a series of imaginative artworks from existing collections, capturing the depth of artistic talent in the new Moreton Bay community.

Do you know what Bodgies and Widgies are?
In the “Baby Boomer” era, Bodgies were young teenage men who wore tight trousers, had slicked back hair, and rode motor bikes, as in the movie “Grease” or television show “Happy Days” and the Widgies were their girl friends.
“Hip” people liked Elvis and the Beatles, while the “Squares” liked Pat Boone and the Seekers who had a clean-cut image, and “Mods” wore stove pipe pants and rode motor scooters.

Mega youth fest to set the region alight in 2009

What if there was an opportunity that came along only once every 150 years?
Well that opportunity has arrived for the youth of South East Queensland with the announcement of a festival that will highlight the talents of the region and give young people an opportunity to engage with some of the most exciting performers and artists in this corner of the State.
The festival is just one part of a series of celebrations planned right across Queensland to mark the State’s 150th birthday in 2009.

If you’ve ever dreamt of showcasing your creative talents to the nation (with the chance to win some fantastic goodies), then make sure you don’t miss out on taking part in Australia’s largest talent competitions.
The National Talent Competitions (NTC) are part of the National Youth Week 2008 (NYW) celebrations and are an opportunity for all young musicians, writers, movie-makers, photographers, artists and designers aged 12 – 25 to make their mark and RockIT, WriteIT, ShootIT, SnapIT or DesignIT.  
There is over $70,000 worth of prizes up for grabs including computer and software packages; music vouchers and professional camera equipment.
