AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST YOUTH TALENT COMPETITIONS ARE NOW OPEN!
If you’ve ever dreamt of showcasing your creative talents to the nation (with the chance to win some fantastic goodies), then make sure you don’t miss out on taking part in Australia’s largest talent competitions.
The National Talent Competitions (NTC) are part of the National Youth Week 2008 (NYW) celebrations and are an opportunity for all young musicians, writers, movie-makers, photographers, artists and designers aged 12 – 25 to make their mark and RockIT, WriteIT, ShootIT, SnapIT or DesignIT.
There is over $70,000 worth of prizes up for grabs including computer and software packages; music vouchers and professional camera equipment.

Entrants have the opportunity to strut their stuff and gain invaluable industry recognition as entries are judged by leading industry professionals. A past finalist of the RockIT competition is Aussie band Operator Please.
Video Hits presenter, Faustina ‘Fuzzy’ Agolley, is throwing her support behind NYW and is urging young Aussies to tap into their inner creative genius and get involved with the NTC.

Entries will be judged in two age categories (Junior: 12-17 and Senior: 18-25). Industry representatives will select an overall winner in each category while an online poll (held following NYW) will give young Australians the chance to decide their People’s Choice winners.
The entry requirements for each category are as follows:
RockIT: Record an original song or instrumental piece.

WriteIT: Develop a piece of writing (max 1,500 words).

ShootIT: Produce a two-and-half minute short film.

SnapIT: Take a creative photograph.

DesignIT: Create a flat image digital design.
Industry judges for 2008 include:
Dardanelles – Top Indie Band (RockIT);
Annie Fox – Freelance writer (WriteIT),
Khoa Do – AFI nominated producer and director (ShootIT);
Sophie Howart – photographer (published the book Peace Love and Brown Rice; and
Sam Stewart – Head of global design for Rip Curl (DesignIT).
NYW runs from 5 to 13 April and is Australia’s largest annual celebration of young people. The theme for this year’s Youth Week is ‘Shout.Share.Live.Unite’ with young Australians being encouraged to take the opportunity to voice their opinions and get involved in their local community.
