Dive into Moreton Bay’s Talent Pool
From sculptors to print-makers – Moreton Bay is home to an eclectic mix of artists who have been brought together for Council’s first ever region-wide art exhibition, Talent Pool. Talent Pool will showcase works by artists from Caboolture, Pine Rivers and Redcliffe districts. The nine exhibiting artists have each contributed a series of imaginative artworks from existing collections, capturing the depth of artistic talent in the new Moreton Bay community.
Artists involved in the exhibition have used a broad range of mediums and techniques including watercolour paints, print-making and ceramics in creating their works.
The exhibiting artists include Caboolture painter Amanda Russian; Pine Rivers ceramicist, sculptor and jeweller Ann O’Connor; Redcliffe painter and teacher Cernak; Caboolture print maker and painter Ellie Neilson; Pine Rivers painter and sculptor Scott Whitaker; Redcliffe painter and teacher John Carr; Caboolture painter and academic Les Morgan; Pine Rivers sculptor and painter Sharon Jewell and Redcliffe sculptor and painter John A Robinson.
Talent Pool opens on Wednesday April 2 at Matthew Flinders Gallery, Bribie Island Community Arts Centre, Sunderland Drive, Banksia Beach, Bribie Island.
The exhibition will be officially launched at the gallery on Saturday April 5 from 6pm. Guest speaker, Queensland Art Gallery program officer Angela Goddard will discuss the importance of art in regional centres and the legacy left by the late painter Ian Fairweather. Fairweather, who lived much of his life on Bribie Island, has works on display in all Australian state galleries and international galleries including the Tate Gallery in London.
Matthew Flinders Gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 4pm. Talent Pool closes on Sunday May 11.
