Taking better vacation photos (or “Did you pack the camera?”) by Ali Choudhry
Capture the feeling
Photography, as much as some photographers may think it, is less about capturing what is there and more about capturing the essence of what is there. You’re not photographing what you see, but rather you’re photographing how that moment in time made you feel.
Get some posed shots, but also remember to get some candid ones. You want to have your pictures remind you of the times you were having, both good and bad.
The best camera in the world
The best camera in the world is the one that you have on you. Even with all that gear—I don’t carry it around with me all the time – so when I’m out and about, the camera I have on me is my phone. Learn to use your camera. Try out the different modes that may be on it. Read the manual. Better yet, read a book on your specific gear (the library is a great place to start!). If you’re using your phone as a camera, then try different apps—there are so many free ones! I’m a huge fan of Instagram personally.
