Nov2014_DAYBORO ART GALLERY NEWS
Throughout November the Gallery features the work of Majella Holten, whose creative focus began with ballroom dancing. Over the past five years this has shifted as she has immersed herself in the visual arts. With a second cousin an eight time winner of the Archibald prize as inspiration, Majella has participated in many workshops with talented Australian artists, is currently doing Diploma studies in Visual Arts, as well as courses in Ceramics and Sculpture.
A keen entrant in local and regional shows and competitions, she recently "had the honour" of being awarded "Best in Show" at the 2014 Arts Alliance of Pine Rivers Art Festival. Another highlight for 2014 was an art trip to New York, where she visited "amazing art galleries" and had the opportunity to paint plein air in Central Park, Staten island, and Battery Park.
The theme for many of her works has been the seaside, reflecting her long time residency of the Redcliffe Peninsula. Now residing on Mt Mee, her artworks demonstrate a new energy and movement in her depictions of motorcycles and other action themes, and a willingness to experiment across mediums and subject matter.
Dayboro Community art gallery is open 7days a week from 10am til 3pm. There are a broad range of items for sale, including stone works, ceramics, glassworks, jewellery, postcards, photographs and paintings. The gallery is always manned by a member or two, so is also a great resource for anyone interested in making art who might just need a tip or two to get started. Clay making classes are held regularly and there are other activities and workshops occasionally on offer. Hope to see you there.
If you are looking for that different gift call in to the Dayboro Gallery. Open 7 days 10.00am – 3 pm.
