Nov2014_Ashley Lake wins Bronze Medal

WorldSkills Australia National Competition
Ashley Lake from Dayboro & Districts Auto Electrics competed at the WorldSkills Australia National Competition in Perth from 18th to 20th September.

This major event saw almost 500 of Australia’s most talented trade and skill technicians battle it out at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre over three gruelling days.  Each of the national competitors earned their position to compete on the national stage after their gold medal winning performance in the 2013 round of regional competitions held across the 30 WorldSkills Australia regions.

Over three long days, the competitors fought for the prestigious title of “Nations Best” and win an elite spot on the podium.

Ashley was overwhelmed with the enormity of the event but when he commenced competition and his nerves subsided, his determination to do his best kept him focused and in the zone. With judges watching his every move, he completed the set projects within the strict time limits.  These included Fault Finding; Wiring Harness Fabrication and Ignition Timing; Starting Systems; Engine Management; Vehicle Systems; Accessory Circuits and Wiring Diagrams. The criteria he was judged on was Analysis, Application, Diagnosis, Repair, Trade Skills, Drawing, Time Management, Safety and Cleanliness.

Not knowing how he went till the Closing Ceremony, Ashley was very excited when his name was announced as the winner of the Bronze Medal for Auto Electrical.  This was presented to him in front of thousands of audience members including his proud parents; Glen & Karri Lake (Bowlak Bobcat & Tipper Hire).
Congratulations Ashley, this is a fantastic achievement and we wish you every success for the future.
