The Samford and Surrounds Open Studios and Arts Trails are only weeks away. This event has taken four years of planning and was a result of the Samford Futures surveys which took place way back in 2011. Creative Samford is really excited to be able to have this kind of event in our region and we have worked hard to make this event a reality.
Arts Trails give the public the opportunity to visit artists in their working spaces, whilst getting a unique insight into each artists work practice and experience their original art. The “Trail” will be a major event for our region. The “Trail” will take place during the month of June 2015. Artists will open their studios to the public every weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 10 until 3pm. 2015 is the first time it will have been held within the Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC). MBRC has already become a major supporter of the “Trail” through two grants.
The concept of open artists’ studios enables the public not only to view an artist’s work but also to see and “feel” the ambience of the artist’s creative environment. Each artist’s studio is a specific part of their creative process and to be able to experience their working space provides an insight into their usually private creative process.
We have 30 artists taking part in the 2015 “Trail”, in 19 venues located from Mount Glorious to Ocean View. The artist’s work in a number of disciplines from painting and sculpture to textiles. Many of the artists are well known in the art world and some have exhibited internationally.
Some studios will be hosting workshops and demonstrations during the event, however the opportunity to meet an artist and discuss their work outside the often clinical gallery environment will be one of the most intriguing parts of the “Trail” event. The “Trail” will also showcase the wonderful talent and creative spirit we have in the Samford and surrounding area.
Creative Samford is anticipating many visitors from all over Moreton Bay and wider Brisbane. This is a really exciting event for our region and will showcase the rich well of artistic talent as well as our beautiful scenery and wonderful people.
