June2015_Dayboro Community Kindergarten

Date Claimer:
Saturday 1st August is the date for this year’s fabulous Kindy High Tea.  A new and exciting format is planned, so mark it in your calendars ladies and more details will be announced closer to the date.  Help support your local community kindergarten, by joining us for an afternoon of fun and frivolity!
As per usual the Kindy has a lot happening, so here are some dates to remember:
Saturday 4-Sunday 5 July- Dayboro Show (Kindy display).  One piece of artwork from each child will be included in a Kindergarten display at the Dayboro Show.
Term 2: 20 April – 26 June (26/6 Pupil Free Day)
Sustainable Kindergarten:
The sustainability element of the Kindergarten program has been supported in recent weeks with help by parents working with the children to weed, dig over and plant seeds in the raised garden beds.  Parent involvement in the program enhances children’s learning as they are exposed to various areas of interest.
A heavier focus on sustainability will be evident in the coming weeks after a visit to each group by Wendy from Compost Kids.  These sessions focused on recycling, the benefits of worm farming and growing your own food.
In the coming weeks care of worm farms and their individual plants will incorporate development in:
– early literacy – as they need to recognise their name on their plant and their worm farm
– number awareness and fine motor skills – as they count the number of times they spray water in to their worm farms
– independent thinking and responsibility.
The children are very fortunate to be introduced to environmentally sustainable concepts at such an early age in a supported learning environment.
