June2015_Dayboro Youth Training Program

For quite some time the Lions Club of Dayboro has been concerned that Dayboro lacks facilities for young people in the age group 12 to 16 years of age especially in the evenings.
Whilst Dayboro has some very good facilities, skate-park, basket-ball hoop and the new table tennis table, they are all unlit and consequently not usable in the evening.  Whilst we have approached Council to address this issue, as usual it is like knocking your head against a brick wall.

Dayboro Lions decided to take action and do something to address the issue, so we invited the Supervising Police Officer, Ty Connell from the Pine Rivers PCYC to come along to one of our dinner meetings to explain what they are doing for their young people and explore options for Dayboro.  Our local police Sergeant Ken Robinson was instrumental in setting up this initial discussion with the Pine Rivers PCYC.
One of their ideas was to provide weekly training sessions with an appropriately qualified instructor at the lowest possible cost but emphasizing that there had to be a cost.
When Amanda and Richard opened up their new training business “The House of Natural Health and Fitness” at the Old Butter Factory on Williams Street we decided to explore options with them to put a suitable training program in place for our young people.
Following discussions with Amanda we have agreed terms for an initial program of 4 one hour sessions over 4 weeks for young girls and boys in the age group 12 to 16 years.
These will be held by Amanda at their premises on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 8pm.  The first two sessions will take place on Thursday 18th and Thursday 25th June.  There will then be a three week break due to school holidays and the remaining two sessions will take place on 16th and 23rd July.
Recognizing the implications of conducting this kind of physical activity with young people we also agreed with Amanda that a signing up session would be necessary so that interested children could bring a parent along to ask questions and sign their child up for the program if they so wished.
Amanda will be available on Saturday 13th June for 1 hour from 9am until 10am to answer any questions and have forms available for parents to sign their kids up.  Participating children will be expected to contribute a $2 gold coin for each 1 hour session they attend.
During this initial period of 4 weeks Dayboro Lions will liaise with Amanda and make adjustments to the program depending on how popular it is.
