Dickson News From your Federal Member for Dickson Peter Dutton

Troops Home From IRAQ

I recently attended the welcome home of troops who had been serving in Iraq. The plane had been expected to land at 2pm on Sunday, June 8.

Technical difficulties meant families had to wait until 2am on Monday morning June 9. The soldiers had been stationed in Southern Iraq as part of Overwatch Battle Group, Australia‟s largest contribution to the multinational force in the country. Our troops served our country with distinction, and for our many local families who had a loved one serving in Iraq, they will be glad to be reunited.

Find-a-pharmacy

For the first time, consumers have internet access to vital information about pharmacies, including the pharmacy‟s location, trading hours, professional services and languages offered. This is a great tool for the community and can be found at www.findpharmacy.com.au.

Tax help

Once again I am able to provide free tax help at my Strathpine office to members of Dickson whose individual income is less than $35,000 and $2500 for every dependent child. E tax is available and this service will be on offer every Tuesday and Thursday from 15 July until 31 October. To make an appointment or to see if you are eligible please contact my office on 32059977.

National Secondary School Computer Fund

Round One of the Government‟s National Secondary School Computer Fund initiative has been announced with two schools in the Dickson electorate receiving a combined total of 13 computers. I expected many more computers would have been allocated, and this outcome is disappointing seeing schools were promised much more by the Rudd/Swan Government at the last election. With Round Two opening on 14 July 2008, I encourage all secondary schools to take the opportunity to apply. The Government claims their target is a computer to student ratio of 1:2.
