PLAYGROUP Feb 2008

It was party time for the playgroup in December with the kids enjoying the annual pool party. Santa visited and was received well as were the gifts he was giving. The swimming and eating seemed to wear the little ones out and many went home very tired as did a few parents. It was the adults turn to party next with a delightful dinner at the Ocean View Estate winery. The AGM was held and with all the formalities out the way much of the local produce was sampled and lots of fun was had by all who attended. Now we must return to some form of normality.

COUNCILLORS COLUMN Feb 2008

By Cr Bob Millar

WELCOME BACK

Well, the all too short Christmas/New Year break is behind us and everyone will have been gearing up for return to work, preparing for school, keeping the weeds under control, mowing the lawns, signing the kids on for sport or for our volunteers getting ready for another year of community service.  With local government elections taking place on 15th March, I look forward to the opportunity of continuing to work with the community and applying my skills and experience in meeting the challenges brought about by creation of Australia’s third largest council.  It will be critical to us all for this amalgamation to be as smooth as possible so that the services, facilities and lifestyle we have grown to enjoy in Pine Rivers are protected.  Have a good year.

Dear Editor, on Parenting

My life changed forever 2½years ago when I became a parent for the first time. No amount of talking to family or friends or reading countless books on parenting prepared me for the experience of childbirth and then the day to day events of raising a child. I fortunately was one of the lucky ones who felt an instant bond, love so great I sometimes feel I am going to burst.

FOR DAYBORO’S FIRST RESPONDERS GROUP

MARK IT IN YOUR DIARY:  Wed 5th March, 6.30pm

See you there – at the Dayboro Ambulance Station!

The Dayboro community will be delighted to know that a Dayboro First Responders Group has been officially approved for the area. First Responders will greatly support the already stretched resources of the local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) by attending local accidents and medical emergencies to provide life saving first aid until the arrival of advanced medical care. This was the second submission that Chresten Reville (Local Advanced Care Paramedic) and Craig Ferguson (Local Ambulance Committee Member) have presented to the QAS within the last 18 months and this one was more than 6 months in preparation.

Dear Editor, on streetscape

I note Mr Bob Neil’s concern about Dayboro’s streetscape (letters, December 2007).  My concern is that land owners are being forced to conform to any architectural standard of building design at all.  The old buildings in Dayboro are such as they are precisely because when they were (jerry) built, there was no architectural regulator commanding what land holders did, thank God.  Now we have absurd regulatory controls about building design that really belong in fascist and communist countries where freedom of expression is uniformly denied to all.
