Pull out the chaps and put on your hat, it’s all about Country this May the 18th – for the annual RSPCA Million Paws Walk. Last year proved to be a great success as we stepped out as ‘Lifesavers’ in our beach theme, but we are getting back to our roots in 2008 (boot scooting roots, that is!) The theme is Country! This year will celebrate 15 years of the national fundraiser and it’s search for the ultimate target of a million paws walking across the Country.

Are you planning or dreaming? Or is your head in the sand?
Whether we like it or not the world has changed dramatically in the modern era and the pace of change is increasing. The world we “boomers” were born into no longer exists. In spite of the economic prosperity the country is said to be experiencing, the gap between the “haves” and the “havenots” is widening. It’s no longer safe to go along merrily from day to day assuming that the future will take care of itself. It simply won’t. It’s never too late to plan but every day wasted increases the size of the mountain you’ll have to climb.

I received a telephone call from a resident on a small acreage, upset over the loss of her sheep to either wild dogs or dingoes. My discussions with local vets brought a mixture of theories/observations, including dingoes versus wild dogs scenarios.

With the Scouting movement this year celebrating its 100 years in Australia, it seems fitting for past members to march with today’s members in our Dayboro Day Festival’s Street Parade. Come along and help celebrate this milestone.

CALLING PAST MEMBERS OF DAYBORO SCOUTS: Past members are invited to join current members to march with the Dayboro Scout Group in Dayboro Day Parade. Starting Thursday 1st May at the Dayboro Scout Hall, Don Kerr Memorial Drive, Dayboro.
Eyes down at 10.30am and going through until about 1pm.
A total of 20 games will be played each week, with a break for morning tea after the first 10 games.

Alpacas have been in Australia for over 20 years and are fast becoming part of the fabric of farm life.  A unique agribusiness for small and broad acreages these endearing animals are popular for their ease of handling and their beautiful much sought after fleece. Once seen as unusual, alpacas are proving to be an exciting burgeoning industry for many Australians.  Since the inception of the Australian Alpaca Industry in 1988 intensive breeding and importation has grown the national herd to around 90,000 animals.

From sculptors to print-makers  – Moreton Bay is home to an eclectic mix of artists who have been brought together for Council’s first ever region-wide art exhibition, Talent Pool. Talent Pool will showcase works by artists from Caboolture, Pine Rivers and Redcliffe districts. The nine exhibiting artists have each contributed a series of imaginative artworks from existing collections, capturing the depth of artistic talent in the new Moreton Bay community.
