Oct2013_DAYBORO BOWLS CLUB NEWS
Division 4 Pennant Winners 2013 Congratulations to our Dayboro Ladies for taking home the flag this year. Very exciting win.
We have 2 other flags, first one was won in 1996. It is a Queensland Ladies Bowls Association Metropolitan Sectional winner flag, which meant competing against other districts to be overall winner. Second flag is from a photo Edna Wruck showed us of her proudly holding the runners-up flag in 2001.
In 2012 in Division 5 we were beaten in the semi-finals after going out on our own for the first time in a number of years. This was Sheila Close’s first for her new Club as Pennant Selector, Manager and player which she found a real privilege, and a real struggle at times to field the 3 teams.
In 2013, thanks to the new players who joined our Club this year, we were able to at least have 2 complete teams most of the time, and thanks to the members who put their hands up to keep the 3rd team going.
Our last 2 games were nail biters, going into the finals. Thanks to all members who participated. It was a shame that Sheila was unavailable for the last game. Sheila was grateful to President Lorraine (filling in for Sheila) when faced with 2 bowls to play, and knowing it was up to her, she came up trumps and we got over the line by 2 shots.
Thanks also to Giuli Ferguson for umpiring 4 of our games.
It is noted that proud Edna Wruck played in all 3 of these games.
SEPTEMBER FINANCIAL DAY: Thanks to Beryl Nicholson and Lou Dolgner who sponsored our day. They do this every year and we are very grateful.
Winning Team was Beryl’s Scarborough team with Brenda, Pine River’s team runners-up. Spider prizes went to David, Kallangur and Gloria, Bramble Bay. Raffles went to Margaret, Kallangur and Yolanda, Brighton, Rita, Deception Bay and the Bowls Bag -donated by Richard, Bribie Island Bowls Club – went to Glad, Kallangur. Thanks to Richard and Dianne for their continued support.
FRIENDSHIP DAY: Once again this was lots of fun with Alex McMillan, ADM Business Consultants, sponsoring the day. Unfortunately Alex could not attend on the day.
WEDNESDAYS: Ladies day, but men welcome. $5 to play BYO lunch. All welcome.
Eleanor Williams,
Secretary.
