DAYBORO SHOW SUCCESS
To the enjoyment of the thousands of residents and visitors who attended the 2015 and 60th Show, fantastic weather conditions were a welcome and a great relief for the hard working Show committee and their volunteers.
This local show, which each year should be on every resident’s calendar, has again provided a great selection of entertainment for the whole family at a very affordable price, in a safe and family friendly environment. Having grown up around small country shows, it still surprises me when I bump into residents around the area who have not yet attended one of these great community Shows. Congratulations to the small band that make up the committee and to their helpers for another outstanding event. It has been a pleasure to continue Council’s support and see the organisers’ efforts rewarded.
DO YOU NEED COUNCIL APPROVAL?
Many residents in the region are under the misapprehension that they can undertake almost unrestricted activities on their properties, although in so doing they may fall foul of any one or more of State and/or Local laws. Residents should check with council before undertaking any works such as tree clearing, excavation or filling works on their property or adjoining lands. A number of residents around the Region have recently contravened either State or Council regulations by undertaking unapproved works or activities on their properties. Some of these transgressions are having quite costly consequences for those involved, so it is best to check first. Council’s website is a good first place to find relevant information.
MORETON BAY COMMUNITY GRANTS
I have reported previously that in the most recent round of Community Grants, Council provided more than $260,000 to 63 eligible organisations and groups across the Region. Applications for the next round of grants opened on the 1st July and will close on August 31st. Grants are available in the following categories: Regional Arts Development, Facility Development, Community Events, Community Projects, Organisation Development, Interest Free Loans.
For all details visit the council website www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au . A grant writing workshop was held in July and if you weren’t able to make it, information presented at the workshop is available online at www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/general.aspx?id=138533
RURAL NUMBERING
This consistent and logical numbering process, established originally to assist emergency services, also assists public utilities, commercial deliveries, visitors and even residents to better identify property locations in less densely populated areas of our Region. Australia Post has also confirmed that it is the preferred form of addressing to assist with mail deliveries, particularly as the use of Lot numbers creates considerable confusion in areas undergoing continual development. If the number on your rural address post is faded, otherwise illegible, or your post is damaged please contact Council on mbrc@moretonbay.qld.gov.au or phone 3205 0555 to be included on a schedule for maintenance.
NEW AND/OR REPLACEMENT SIGNAGE
A number of long standing parks across Division 11 are in the process of receiving new or replacement signage. Amongst those are Lions Park, Apex Park and Roderick A Cruice Park in Dayboro and Denis Goodwin Reserve off Showground Drive in Samford. This program will be ongoing as funding becomes available and older signs are due for renewal.
DAYBORO RODEO REVISITED
With the small but enthusiastic Dayboro Rodeo Committee cranking up for the third time in recent months to deliver this fantastic annual event, let us hope for fine weather. As a community we can also show our support by attending this event on 9th August and making it a day out for family and friends.
DID YOU KNOW?
Council regularly requests consultations on projects in the Region. Consultations are major projects or initiatives where Council is seeking feedback from the community, which is your opportunity to have your say and help shape the future of our region. Please visit www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au
