Aug2015_Come along and be part of an amazing community event

The annual Monster Garage Sale at the Samford Valley Community Church is more than just a garage sale where you can get a great bargain.  It is a day of connecting, meeting friends and socialising over a cuppa.

For the last 20 years about 100 people have come together to sort, clean and organize donations for this day.  All things sold on the day are donations from the community.  This amazing event is not only about the day of the garage sale but the 2 weeks leading up to it where all volunteers work together to make this event happen.  It is these 200 hands which make the difference and the atmosphere is just magic.  There is a lot of laughter, great conversations and ideas as we look through all the amazing donations.

 

Often we are deeply touched by the generosity of the community.  Not all items are sold which provides opportunities to support families in need.  One year we were looking for furniture for a family who only had beds in the kids room and needed a chest of drawers.  This was mentioned to a family when they donated furniture and some days later the most beautiful chest of drawers was donated to this unknown family.  In the end all children had not only a chest of drawers but also a bed side table which they were so delighted about.  Such kindness is what makes this garage sale so special.  

 

Why not be part of this magic and consider offering some time to help!  A lot of hands get the job done faster!  From 15 Aug to 28 Aug we are at the Samford Valley Community Church from 8am to 7pm, with morning tea at 10am.  If you are interested in helping in this community event please call Vicki – 0428 912 233.  This is far more than just a church event – this is a community event and we would like to invite the community to not only come on the day, but also be part of the sorting fun so come along on your own, as a group, or a couple and give us a hand to create something for our community.
