June2015_Dayboro QAS First Responder Group do more training

All the members of the group travelled to the Queensland Combined Emergency Services Academy at Whyte Island at the port of Brisbane on Saturday May 9th.  Here they met up with about 50 other ambulance volunteers to take part in a busy day of training and scenarios.
The activities included a simulated road crash rescue with help from members of the Queensland Fire and rescue service.  There was also a refresher and test of their CPR skills and knowledge during a CPR masterclass, and a thorough session on dealing with young children experiencing sickness.  Volunteers also were educated in birthing techniques and had an opportunity to use advanced manikins to get a realistic experience of assisting a childbirth.
As it was the first day of Ambulance Week the QAS provided a special cake to celebrate.

QAS Community First Responders play an important role in their communities.  They are trained to a high level in First Aid and advanced life-support.  They are equipped with an extensive range of equipment and offer assistance to single officer Ambulance Paramedic crews and are available to be despatched to provide initial response to members of the public calling for help in medical emergencies.
Many members of the Dayboro and surrounding community will have experienced first-hand the important work that the Dayboro First Responder volunteers perform regularly.
