Oct2013_Dayboro students excel in F1 in Schools Challenge
Three students from Dayboro, Tyler Redfern, Nick Thomas and Lachlan Schrader, are involved in the “F1 in Schools” Challenge. They recently competed in the Regional Finals held at Pine Rivers High School.
Their team, Atomic Rush, together with Caleb Clarke-Smith and Max Miller, were successful in being crowned the Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Development Class Champions.
F1 in Schools is the worlds largest science, technology, engineering & mathematics competition. Students as young as 10 are designing, testing and making miniature F1 cars capable of 80km/h. But it is not just about fast cars. Students learn leadership, team building, project management, business planning, public speaking, marketing, collaboration, writing and presentation skills.
Five teams from local primary schools were involved in the F1 in Schools 3D challenge, including Dayboro State School. The primary school teams were mentored by teachers and successful high school students and these teams also were involved in the Regional Competition.
Atomic Rush were also successful in winning the Best Engineered Design Award, Innovation Award and the Fastest Reaction Racer Award (0.004 of a second).
They are now keen to represent the Moreton Bay Region at the State Finals to be held in mid October. Atomic Rush would like to thank Craig Doyle Real Estate for sponsoring the team at State level.
