WELCOME BACK
Welcome to my first column for 2013. I hope that all the Dayboro Grapevine readers have had an enjoyable Christmas/New Year and that those of you who have had the opportunity to holiday are now refreshed and looking forward to the year ahead. Council has delivered tens of millions of dollars in sporting infrastructure, community facilities, social programmes and arts and youth activities over the last 12 months and continued a high level of engagement with the community on many issues through a number of different avenues.
Whilst Council, like all levels of Government and many in the community, is facing very difficult financial pressures, we remain in good shape to maintain the services and facilities to take our 390,000 residents into the future.
IT’S PINE RIVERS CUP TIME AGAIN

The second round will be played at Samford on the 9th February with the third round being played at Dayboro on the 16th February. Finals will be played at Pine Central on the 23rd February. Council is again pleased to be supporting this competition with $1,500 in sponsorship. The Pine Rivers Cup competition over the years has built a strong following and provides spectators with a great evenings sporting entertainment so please put these dates in your diary and make a commitment to support your local club.
CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY
– On March 3rd 2013
Clean Up Australia Day which each year is sponsored locally by Council will be held on Sunday 3 March 2013. Clean Up Australia Day is a simple way you can take action to clean up, fix up and conserve our prized Australian environment. I have worked closely with a number of community groups and residents across Division 11 for many years on this great environmental exercise and if you would like to register yourself or a Clean Up site go to:

COUNCIL PLANNING SCHEME REVIEW
Council last year commenced the major task of developing a new planning scheme for the Moreton Bay Region which over the next 12 – 18 months will involve significant opportunity for community input. Dr Rodney Tolley, an international expert on sustainable transport recently visited Council for a second time following Council’s signing of the Walk 21 Charter in November 2011. With significant growth in our Region and increasing need for walking and cycling opportunities Council will, as part of its Active Transport Strategy, be focussing on the sustainable and active transport needs of the community. Information on Walk 21 can be found at www.walk21.com
DAYBORO HERITAGE TRAIL COMES TO LIFE
After a number of years of planning the latest addition to Dayboro’s tourism attraction’s was launched at a well-attended community function in early December the Dayboro Heritage Trail includes 19 sites around the Village and will give both residents and visitors alike the opportunity to learn more of the rich history of the area. My thanks and appreciation to Carmel Bond and her enthusiastic committee for helping bring this project to fruition.
