Feb2013_DAYBORO VET SURGERY NEWS

The end is in sight!
At the time of writing, we expect to be working out of our new clinic in mid February.  Unfortunately this won’t mean an end to the disruption, as parking will continue to be a problem until the old building has been removed and our new, improved car park is completed.
Public access into the clinic will also be of a temporary nature until the old building is removed.  We would like to thank you all for being so patient and understanding of the disruptions that the construction process has caused.  We can’t wait to welcome you into our new clinic.  We’re confident you will be delighted with the extra space and wonderful facilities designed for your pet’s comfort and care, including our brand new equine facilities  and stables.

3 Day (B.E.F.)
On another note, for those clients with cattle, 3 Day (B.E.F) is still around.  Younger animals tend to recover more quickly from this disease, which is spread by mozzies and midges, and produces flu like symptoms.  They are often observed with what is referred to as shifting lameness, as their joints become stiff and sore and they move from limb to limb to shift their weight.  Sometimes they will go down and be reluctant or unable to get up which can cause complications and be fatal.  Treatment is limited to pain relief to reduce pain and inflammation and get them up and about again.  A yearly vaccination is available which, when given early enough in the season will prevent this disease. It requires two vaccinations, 1 month apart, at around the age of 12 months, then a yearly booster.  August to September is the ideal time of year to vaccinate, before the hot steamy weather brings out the midges.
