DIGITISED CEMETERY RECORDS

Cemetery records throughout the whole of the Moreton Bay region could be digitised and archived on the Internet.

The Moreton Bay Regional Council has expressed an interest in the process through the State Government’s Community Memorial Restoration Program grant scheme.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said current cemetery records across the Pine Rivers, Caboolture and Redcliffe districts were varied and some were still in manual systems.

“A fully digitised listing through the Council’s website would provide an enhanced archive of valuable historic data and an upgraded service for family historians,” he said.

The Lawnton cemetery shelter, a historic walk at Samford and the restoration of the Wylie Gates at Mathieson Park, Petrie are other projects that have been submitted under the program.

Each project would be funded on an equal share basis between the council and the State Government.
