DISC GOLF COULD GO REGIONAL

The Moreton Bay Regional Council may consider an annual disc golf competition for schools throughout the region.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said the game had been established in the Pine Rivers region for a number of years and Year 7 students from local primary schools in the area had been competing on the 18-hole Bray Park course since 2001.

 “Disc golf is played in a number of countries – especially the US, Japan and Europe,” he said.

 “It is similar to traditional golf but uses a disc or Frisbee instead of a golf club and ball.  The target is a basket attached to a metal pole.”

The council has requested a detailed report on the feasibility of conducting the region-wide competition in 2009.
