What an extraordinary season – six months without a drop of useful rain followed by months of unremitting downpours.  The ground is so greasy on our gentle Kalahari Downs slopes that it is dangerous to go ‘down the paddock’ – with even the tractor sliding sideways on the tracks..  But we will be sticking to that mechanised form of transport – because it is easy to catch and doesn’t need to be vaccinated against Hendra virus!

The NBN (National Broadband Network) does seem to have gained momentum and be rolling along nicely.
The quoted speed on the NBN website is ‘up to’ 100 Mbps.  
“Your experience including the speeds actually achieved over the NBN depends on some factors outside our control like your equipment quality, software, broadband plans and how your service provider designs its network.” http://www.nbnco.com.au

Dear Editor,
I was surprised to read a Letter to the Editor in the last edition of The Grapevine from a Mr Stitt regarding, amongst other things, the use of nose rings in pigs.  I commend Mr Stitt on his passion for animal welfare and the pig community at large.

Property Crime
Over the past month there has been one reported break and enter of a shed but no property was taken.  There have been two reports of property stolen from vehicles and a car stolen from Strathpine was located burnt out at Ocean View.   Whilst this is a reduction on previous months, please remain vigilant as to suspicious persons and vehicles and lock up your homes and cars.

Des and Edna Wruck were married 60 years ago (23 March 1953) at Ann Street Presbyterian Church, Ann Street, Brisbane. 
They recently celebrated their Diamond Anniversary (60 years) with family and extended family at Laurel and Nev’s home.

Apr2013_ANZAC Day, 2013

Dawn Service:  
The Dawn Service will be held at the Cenotaph in Roderick Cruice Park (beside the pool) and will commence at 0515. Bring a light and participate in the service.
Parade and Main Service
The Main Parade will be as it was last year.  Form up will be at the hotel at 9.00am and the march will begin at 9.30am sharp and proceed to the school.

Apr2013_KUPIDABIN FAIRY FESTIVAL

Sat 4th May & Sun 5th May  1.30pm – 3.30pm
Kupidabin Fairy Festival will be held at The Lyell Deer Sanctuary, Lyell Court (off Foggs Road) Mt Samson – just 15 minutes from Dayboro.
The Fairy Festival is held twice a year, with a Spring Festival in September.
