Dear Editor,

My family and I were most distressed to read the story of the pet piglet that has had a ring surgically implanted in its nose by The Old Mill.  We breed pigs, as did my father.  A pig’s entire existence is to dig with its nose.  It is natural for a pig to dig with its snout to look for food, to create a cool and comfortable place to lie, and to entertain themselves.  To rob a pig of this purely to protect a garden is abhorrent.  If your garden is that important to you, and you are not prepared to fence it off, then you should not own a pet pig.  For The Old Mill to perpetuate such practices, and to openly brag about it, is a disgrace.  Mutilating a piglet in such a manner, depriving it of its natural existence, is akin to keeping a magnificent cockatoo locked in a cage at the front of your store for entertainment.

Dear Editor,

Schapelle’s coming home?  Not yet, it’s far from certain.  Though we can be sure of four things.  One:  Indonesian people smugglers get to serve their parole at home with their families after Julia Gillard’s Government sends them home.  Two:  Bali Bomber Idris (AKA Joni Hendrawand), is free after serving just five years of a paltry 10 year sentence.  Three:  his murderous mate Umar Patek finally got sent down in 2012 for just 20 years.  That’s exactly what Schapelle got for a bag of weed.  Four:  Julia gave $102 million for the Queensland floods and $500 million to Indonesian schools.
