Oct2014_PINK RIBBON DAY – October 27 2014

This year in Queensland, around 3900 women will be diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer, and around 800 will die from these women’s cancers.
Pink Ribbon Day (Monday, October 27) provides an opportunity to unite in pink and show support for the one in six Queensland women who will be diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer in their lifetime.

Oct2014_QUEENSLAND MAPS AT THE TOUCH OF A BUTTON

Town planners, emergency services and even the Girl Guides are among those expected to take advantage of a new, free Queensland Government initiative which can deliver topographical maps straight to an email inbox.
The new QTopo online service allows anyone to create and then download their own topographical map via the Department of Natural Resources and Mines website.

Oct2014_SAMFORD MUSEUM NEWS

Breaking the earth for the foundation of the Samford Provisional School replica commenced on 8 January 2000. January was the beginning of many very busy months ahead. Another year was to pass by before this huge job was completed.  In actual fact it was built over 27 Saturdays by volunteers from the Golden Valley/Keperra Lions Club, the volunteers and or members from the museum.  The project was funded by a Centenary Federation grant (Federal).  A quote from Pine River Press 31 January 2001 “Descendants of Samford pioneering families were among more than 500 people who witnessed the opening of the town’s 1872 Provisional School replica on Friday 26 January 2001.”

Make a difference in your community!
My name is Barbara Kienast and I am from the Samford Support Network.  We are a group of volunteers who operate in Samford and the surrounding area giving people a hand when they need one.  This can be driving them to appointments or social functions because they cannot drive due to their age, injury, illness or disability.  We also give social support and other services.  Why is this all relevant to you?

Yet another Samford Show has been and gone.  I don’t know about you but they appear to be getting here faster each year.  The weather was magnificent which made for a very busy two days.  The Museum stall was certainly kept busy selling their wares.  Homemade cooking is always a big draw card and seller.
