Sept2014_Can you help build the Dayboro Support Network?
Make a difference in your community!
My name is Barbara Kienast and I am from the Samford Support Network. We are a group of volunteers who operate in Samford and the surrounding area giving people a hand when they need one. This can be driving them to appointments or social functions because they cannot drive due to their age, injury, illness or disability. We also give social support and other services. Why is this all relevant to you?
We have one beautiful lady in Dayboro that needs a hand once in a while due to illness and talking to her brought home to me that Dayboro might benefit from having a similar system in place.
We are operating under the umbrella of an organization called Communify. This means we are fully insured and police checked to ensure the safety of the people we take care of as well as ourselves. In addition, this allows us to have expenses, such as fuel costs, reimbursed. We have volunteers who can commit to visit/drive a person every week or two but also have a completely flexible transport system. Transport requests are posted to all transport volunteers by email and whoever has time replies. You can drive several times a week, once a month or once a year, whatever fits with your circumstances. I personally work and have three children so I only drive during the weekend and often take our boys with me.
I was wondering if a system similar to the Samford Support Network would work for Dayboro. Why not create a ‘Dayboro Support Network’ so that help is at hand when needed? The set-up is easy but as it would be based on volunteers living more in the Dayboro area I need your help! If you love your community and like to help why not give me a call and see what we can do together?
Thank you for considering to help!
