Sept2014_Samford Historical Museum
at Samford Show
Yet another Samford Show has been and gone. I don’t know about you but they appear to be getting here faster each year. The weather was magnificent which made for a very busy two days. The Museum stall was certainly kept busy selling their wares. Homemade cooking is always a big draw card and seller.
Volunteers from the Museum manned the stall. The multi draw raffle certainly proved popular and there were many happy winners. A big thank you to all who were involved in this years show, from the members who set up, served, sold tickets, cooked and packed up. Without their help our Museum would not be the success it is today.
The Totally and Permanently Disabled Soldiers Association
Recent visitors to the Samford Museum were from the Totally and Permanently Disabled Soldiers Association. The club is for returned soldiers who suffer a disability. They meet on the second Monday of each month and also enjoy monthly outings to many different venues and/or visiting other clubs.
Currently there are four clubs in Queensland. It is a social club which benefits the members with comradeship, social gatherings, fellowship and advice on relevant situations and needs. This group is from Sandgate RSL.
All members congratulated the Museum on the very informative visit, the friendly volunteers and orated how each member would walk away with rekindled fond memories of years gone by.
They are one of the many groups we have visit the Samford Museum. Please feel free to contact Geoff on 0417 610 983 or 3289 2743 and come enjoy the experience of our museum.
Samford Museum … What a Surprise.
On Wednesday, our volunteers working bee day was visited by Kobble Creek poet Russell Plunkett. He made a surprise visit to the museum to especially present a beautiful coloured plaque inscribed with a poem Russell had written called "My Land – My Home". The recipient was our most respected and well known local resident John Domrow. The peom is John’s favourite. Russell grinned as he orated " It is up to John where he hangs it, but I would suggest he places it in an area that he sits for the longest time". Also remarking "John is such a treasure". John was most surprised and delighted with his gift and thanked Russell with the traditional handshake.
