DAYBORO HERITAGE TRAIL
Marker 17 Dayboro Police Station:
An application for a police station at Dayboro was made in 1900.  At the time of the application, the Upper North Pine district was patrolled from the North Pine Police Station, some 12 miles (19.3 kilometres) distant, however it took until late 1911 for Mounted Constable Alfred Leech to be temporarily transferred to Terrors Creek.

Dayboro’s first Police station and cell was constructed in 1916.  This building was eventually moved to Laceys Creek Road, and a new Dayboro Police Station was completed in 1961.
On 18 January 1916 plans were submitted for a police station and cell.  Construction was completed on 1 October 1916 at a cost of £795 ($1590) and the first station was officially opened on 29 November 1916.  On 29 May 1961 Senior Constable Ronald E. Nicholson reported that the new Dayboro Police Station was complete.
For a time after its relocation to Laceys Creek Road the original police station building was used as a residence for the local slaughterman and his family.  Some years later the land on which the building stood was subdivided off the “slaughter yard block” and ownership was transferred to Donald Ross Kerr who established a veterinary practice.
The Dayboro Veterinary practice was acquired by the University of Queensland in 1987.  Don Kerr died on 22 November 1992, aged 44.  In 2012 construction began on a new veterinary building and the old police station was once again moved, this time to the Dayboro Memorial Showgrounds where it is undergoing renovations and will become the Administration building.
BIENNIAL 75s & OVER DAY:
On Sunday 21st September Dayboro District Historical Society will be holding its biennial 75s and Over Day at the Dayboro Memorial Showgrounds.  As it was 100 years on 4th August since the outbreak of hostilities in World War One, the theme for this year’s 75s and Over Day will be the Armed Services, not just in relation to World War One but any involvement that people may have had with any of the Armed Services or associated services and organisations such as Red Cross, Comforts Fund etc.

DAYBORO SHOW:
As mentioned last month, next year will be the 60th Dayboro Show – the Diamond Jubilee – which will be held on 4th and 5th July 2015.  We are asking for any assistance people may be able to give us with regard to their involvement in the Shows over the years, whether it be competition or volunteering, trade or club displays etc. or just memories of attending the Shows.  We are also hoping that people may be able to provide us with some photographs.
MEETING DATES:
Our Society has decided to hold alternate night and day meetings instead of only night meetings.  The night meetings will be held at 7.30pm on the 4th Tuesday of the odd numbered months (January, March, May, July, September and November).  The day meetings will be held at 10.30am on the even numbered months (February, April, June, August and October).  We do not have a December meeting.  If you are interested in local history or family history, please consider joining our Society.  Membership is $20.00 per annum or $30.00 for a family residing in the same residence.
