A LIONS TALE March 2009

Well, our recent Monday meeting set a new standard.  An excellent turn-out debated and approved two main items.  The first was the distribution of funds to support our unfortunate countrymen both north in the floods, and south in the horrific fires.
It was thought best not to send money to a central pool, where there are delays and costs in distribution, but to contact the Lions groups in the affected areas, where monies can be used directly immediately and knowledgeably within the community by those who are part of it.
Ingham Lions were contacted to support efforts for the flood despair up there… and get this…. they got back to us to say we are to send the money to the greater need in Victoria !
Dayboro Lions, on behalf of our community, wrote a $4000 cheque and posted it to the Lions districts in Victoria.  We are confident that clubs such as ours down there will ensure the correct and immediate dispersion.  This money had been raised by the Lions here, at community events.
The second main decision was the funding of 10 alarm necklaces and keysafes for distribution to the Dayboro Community.  This $3000 investment will ensure continuing support for our local community.  We have six recipients on the list, and expect delivery soon.  If you are, or know of an appropriate recipient of one of these potentially life-saving devices, then please contact 3425 1570, or email dayboro.lions@gmail.com to register your interest.
The Lions is an international set of clubs, whose members have a common aim – to help and support those less fortunate, and to support our local communities.
If you have these ideals at heart, and wish to join an organisation which is rich in humanitarian objectives yet relaxed in demand, then Dayboro branch of Lions is for you.  Contact Anita, our president  – 3425 1904, or email dayboro.lions@gmail.com, or turn up at our open meetings – the 4th Monday of the month at the fabulous Footy Club, for an inexpensive meal, a talk, and meet our members.
