AGM:        The Annual General Meeting of our Society will be held in “Dayboro Cottage” at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday 24th March 2009.  New members are welcome.  You don’t need to be descended from early pioneering families.  New residents may just wish to learn more about the area in which they have chosen to live.
2009 ANNIVERSARIES
Once again we are endeavouring to find anniversaries – this time for years ending with a 9.
Here are some that should be of interest.

28 Jan 1869    William Henry Day    Portion 15, Parish of Samsonvale – 195 acres
14 Jun 1869    Hans Rohlf    Portion 18, Parish of Samsonvale – 100 acres
5 Jul 1869    Daniel McIver    Portion 29, Parish of Samsonvale – 80 acres

26 Oct 1869    James Mitchell    Portion 35, Parish of Samsonvale – 140 acres fftd
There are still descendants of Hans Rohlf in the district.  In fact the Rohlf family will be holding a family reunion at the Dayboro Memorial Showgrounds on Saturday 9th May 2009 as not only is it 140 years since the property was selected, it will be 150 years from the marriage in Germany of Hans Heinrich Rohlf and Elsabe Schuemann (or Elsper and various other spellings of both her christian and surnames) on 15 May 1859.  Also it will be 100 years since their deaths as both died in August 1909 four weeks apart.
William Stewart was the stepfather of the five Bond children and there are certainly still members of the Bond family in the district.

“March 20, 1909    THE SILVERWOOD GAZETTE
TERROR’S CREEK
Within easy reach of the North Pine Railway Station, with which it is connected by daily coach, Terror’s Creek is one of the most prosperous dairying centres in the North Coast district.  The factory of the Silverwood Company is under the capable management of Mr. D. Pfrunder, and serves not only the surrounding settlers, but also the more distant communities of Samsonvale and Mount Mee.  The general aspect of the country has been described as similar to that of Minden and Marburg, and the whole area is remarkably well watered.  The village of Terror’s Creek, which is well portrayed in our illustration this month, is both picturesque and flourishing, and its surroundings include views of many comfortable farms, whose owners are amongst the chief suppliers of the Silverwood Factory, which may be seen on the left of the picture.”
