In welcoming the new President, Ms Lorraine Hunter, to the position of President, Ms Spittle said “she was proud of the Zonta Club of Pine River’s achievements during the year.
The club’s work and fund raising efforts for the year included two breast cancer cushion making working bees, a birthing kit assembly working bee, hosting of the Pine Rivers Women in Business Expo, hosting of International Women’s Day lunch. Local women and young women of the Pine Rivers District were the beneficiaries of the club’s fund raising efforts.
Ms Spittle said she was especially proud of the financial support given to local women through the club’s assistance to women and families in domestic violence situations, self-esteem classes for young women, and Year 12 bursaries for young women.
The club’s incoming President, Ms Lorraine Hunter, said she “was looking forward to working with the hard working and talented women of the club and that the club would continue to work towards improving the lives of local women by assisting women and young women to realise their potential by alleviating the misery caused by violence and to improve their educational opportunities”.
Zonta Club of Pine Rivers is already organising a Melbourne Cup event, has scheduled breast cancer cushion and birthing kit assembly working bees, and is in the process of consulting with local High Schools about the young women’s educational bursaries for 2009.
