Vote 1 JOHN McNAUGHT For Mayor
WHO IS JOHN MCNAUGHT?
John McNaught is currently the Division 2 Shire Councillor with Caboolture Shire Council. He has held this full-time position as an elected representative for 10 years. In 2000, he unsuccessfully contested the Mayoral position for Caboolture Shire Council and in hindsight, this was meant to be.
He was re-elected as the Division 2 Councillor in 2001 in a by-election. During these following years, he has listened and learned from the professional officers on all local government matters. As a result, this strengthened his knowledge on all such matters, so that when he is advising or solving ratepayers’ problems and issues, he speaks factually and with logic and common sense.
He has consistently attended community meetings, with a divisional, shire wide and inter-shire perspective, over the 10 year period. He does not attend once and then forget about the particular groups or does not only attend at election time. He listens, follows-through and reports back. For example, he has been the only Caboolture Shire elected representative, who has consistently attended the Divisional (Shire Wide) Neighbourhood Watch Conference for the 10 year period. He has been committed to helping and serving the people of the shire. He pays attention and has attention to detail.
John McNaught realises he works for the people of the community. Therefore, he communicates information to the public about their council. This has seen him in the “hot seat” quite a few times when the undeclared, political voting block had the numbers to “punish” him. However, as a resilient, ethical person, he continued to perform his duty to the people of Caboolture Shire.
Prior to entering Local Government, John McNaught took over the household routine as the house-husband, where he found out that pushing a stroller and walking a 3 year old up the, then inadequate, main street footpaths was a nightmare that people shouldn’t have to endure on a daily basis. He believed that basic infrastructure needed to be upgraded to accommodate common sense and logic. During this time, he became President of the P & C Association of the local state school. He also worked as a Taxi Driver, whereby he gained a good perspective of the shire and the people. Because of his observations on the job, he was later capable of advising local business people of good ideas that could result in success.
John McNaught’s defence training enables him to get to the point of discussion. He does not practise “flowery rhetoric” and finds it unnecessary that people in responsible positions have the need to baffle the public into believing they know what they are talking about. He is a factual, hands-on person, who balances a people-oriented and task-oriented perspective.
John McNaught has achieved much for Division 2 over the past 10 years, alongside the community team members who have worked extremely hard. He has visionary ideas for the Moreton Bay Regional Council, but these are based on the practicalities of what can be achieved, as realised through his experience and knowledge of the three tiers of Government.
Throughout the rough and the smooth events of his political career, John McNaught has always had the strong support of his family. The family consists of wife Rita, 20 year old daughter Karri and 16 year old daughter Caitlin.
John McNaught’s local approach responses to the issues that concern people, is what makes him a worthy candidate for:
