SUTHERLAND OFFERS ENERGY AND EXPERIENCE
Redcliffe Mayor and candidate for the top job in the new Moreton Bay Regional Council, Cr Allan Sutherland, says he would bring a blend of energy and experience to the position. The 51-year-old fitness devotee is chair of the Local Transition Committee, which is charged with overseeing a range of issues associated with merging the Redcliffe, Pine Rivers and Caboolture Shire Councils.
He is married to Gayle, an occupational therapy manager in the Redcliffe-Pine Rivers-Caboolture health district, and they have three children, Emma, Luke and Daniel.
Cr Sutherland lists a number of initiatives which he says have given him the greatest satisfaction as Mayor:
Delivery of Redcliffe’s best audit report on record
Revision of the Redcliffe Town Plan to accommodate sustainable development while retaining the local lifestyle
Construction in partnership with Redcliffe Leagues Club of a multi-purpose indoor heated rehabilitation pool
Maintaining Redcliffe’s position with the lowest rates in south-east Queensland
Building community facilities such as a new library and art gallery, the new Redcliffe jetty, a new jetty at Woody Point and purpose designed youth space
Allan Sutherland has rolled up his sleeves and targeted areas for action at every Clean Up Australia Day since 1990, as well as two major cleanup operations in Moreton Bay at Jumpinpin and Pumicestone Passage.
Before entering council he owned and operated an electrical contractor business specialising in hospital, commercial and industrial electrical maintenance, which led him to Charleville where he helped restore power when the western township was devastated by floods.
He recently completed a Diploma of Business at the Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE.
“I believe I have the energy, the determination and the experience to lead the new council,” Cr Sutherland said.
“I’ve done it in Redcliffe and I can do it in Moreton.”
