Birthing Kits
“Every 2 minutes, a woman dies of complications related to pregnancy and childbirth.”
Our branch helps by providing items to be made into birthing kits for women in developing countries.  A clean birthing kit and training in how to use it can help give mothers and babies their best start together.  Items include a plastic sheet 150cm x 150cm to act as an under sheet, piece of cotton sheeting 150cm x 150cm (plain/pastel colours, not bright or patterned), piece of old towelling (hand towel or similar for clean-up), 2 cloth nappies and pins, nail brush, small sealed soap, sterile gauze squares, pair of disposable gloves, disposable scalpel, and two 20cms lengths of strong cord.  If you have any old sheets please consider donating them, we sew them into the required size ready for donation.

Recipe of the month:
Lemon Slice
(from the QCWA 60 No Bake Slices Recipe Booklet)
Base
1 packet Marie biscuits (crushed)
1 cup coconut
grated rind of 1 lemon
125g melted butter
½ tin condensed milk

Icing
1 ½ cups icing sugar
grated rind and juice of one lemon

Method
Mix biscuits and coconut together. Add lemon rind, melted butter and condensed milk and mix well. Press into a lined slab tin and chill. For the icing stir grated lemon rind through icing sugar. Gradually add enough lemon juice to make a spreadable consistency (you may not need all of the juice).
