It is remarkable how quickly the Shed has grown since the initial interest meeting was held on Wednesday, 27th July last year at the Footy Club.
The Shed has already purchased some large wood working machinery using grants from the Moreton Bay Regional Council. What is now needed is our own shed as a permanent structure.
As soon as Moreton Council officers have completed their survey and legal requirements, we expect to receive a lease on an area between the football club and also the Scouts Hall.
We will then have a central Dayboro location for members to get together, rather than using a member’s personal property in Armstrong Creek.
The ongoing running costs and also development of the new site has been helped along with the generous support of Bunnings in allowing members to run a number of sausage sizzles at the Carseldine store. The sausage sizzles raise funds for the cost of development and also ongoing requirements. These events are hard work for the day but are great for mateship.
The club currently has 24 members, and there is a regular attendance of a number every Monday at the Shed in Armstrong Creek. Some members just come for a chat, others are engaged in woodworking, (making storage boxes for the anticipated new shed for example), and others are working on making small items in relation to their own hobbies. Shed members also constructed bird feeding tables, as well as possum and bird boxes for sale at Dayboro Day, so there is a range of activity available. Also some members are bringing in their garden implements for repair and recondition to be ready for spring.

One of the main benefits of a Mens’ Shed:
‘Good health is based on many factors including feeling good about yourself, being productive and valuable to your community, connecting to friends and maintaining an active body and an active mind. Becoming a member of a Men’s Shed gives a man that safe and busy environment where he can find many of these things in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship. And, importantly, there is no pressure. Men can just come and have a yarn and a cuppa if that is all they’re looking for. Members of Men’s Sheds come from all walks of life – the bond that unites them is that they are men with time on their hands and they would like something meaningful to do with that time.’
