Sep2013_A LIONS TALE

I must begin with sad news. Rob Goldstiver, a member for some years, passed away after battling an illness for several months.  Rob’s father, Cecil, was a founding member of Dayboro Lions, and Rob had been continuing his good work with us.  His community efforts, stunning raffle and cake selling skills, humour, and solid Lionism will be missed.

Movies:  The Lions Community family movies are re-starting in September.  We will still be running the repaired 35mm projector, (and using the repaired projectionist!), with a portable back-up projector to ensure the show goes on.  The movie is Despicable Me 2, held at the Community Hall on Saturday 21st September, starting at 7:00pm sharp.  Doors open at 6:30pm, and cost is unchanged, at $6pp, or for a family $18.  Usual drinks and snacks available. Contact dayboro.lions@gmail.com if you have questions.
OTHER NEWS:
Dayboro Lions sponsored the breakfast for the big Lions Bike ride early one Sunday morning in August.  The event raised $18,000 for the Lions youth emergency accommodation centre in Lawnton, which provides a valuable refuge to the vulnerable.
The Dayboro Lions mobility equipment loan service is hitting the mark.  We have in excess of 18 loans out at present, and are looking for donations of, or to buy more wheelchairs and toilet chairs to meet the needs.
The next open meeting is on Wednesday 25th Sept, 7:00pm in the Uniting Church Hall at 7:00pm.  The presentation is the District Governor talking about Lions matters.  This may be an attraction to potential new members.
Lions have embraced the ongoing Apex tasks, with the support and help of the former Apexians to ensure smooth runnings.  Note the Dayboro Directory ad in this issue of the Grapevine – on page 8.  We are endeavouring to set up a stand to capture voters on election day, to help update phone number changes, corrections, newcomers, deletions etc to include in the next directory.  Or you can just email us at dayboro.lions@gmail.com to note any of these.
More next month, when the full complement of nomadic Lions will have returned to the den!
