Photo competition acknowledges male role models
Pine Rivers District Libraries are encouraging budding photographers to take snapshots of their male relatives, especially their Dads, and write about their favourite photo, to coincide with a national touring exhibition.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said the National Thanks Dad People’s Choice Exhibition was coming to the Albany Creek Library, with smaller exhibitions at Strathpine and Kallangur Libraries until August 9.
“The Thanks Dad Photo Competition aims to celebrate the wonderful things men do with their children – and hopes to encourage more men to spend more quality time with them,” he said.
“Dads are wonderful and can make a huge difference in the lives of young children.”
Cr Sutherland said the national competition organisers did not just want to thank the Dads throughout Australia, they were also encouraging everyone to acknowledge all the significant males in their lives such as grandfathers, uncles, step dads, foster dads and older brothers.
Cr Sutherland said to support this local exhibition of the national photos, the Pine Rivers library services were encouraging local shutterbugs to enter a local ‘Thanks Dad Photo Competition’ at each of the libraries by August 8.
There is $50 to be won in both an 18 years and over competition, and the 17 years and under section.
The library services are also encouraging under-17s to enter a story of 250 words or less about the day or moment in their photo. There is a separate $50 prize for this section.
Cr Sutherland said during the past seven years this competition had raised the awareness of the importance of male role models in the community, through nearly 25,000 people voting for their favourite photo of men at the People’s Choice Exhibitions in shopping centres, schools and community venues across Australia.
This is in addition to more than the half a million people hearing about the competition or seeing it in their local newspaper.
Participants in the photo competition can take their photograph mounted on black cardboard to one of the local libraries and fill in an entry form or phone Erin xxxx xxxx (removed March 2014) for more information.
All submitted photographs will be entered into the National Competition which closes on August 25. For more information on the National Competition go to www.thanksdadphotos.org
