Phone booking is essential – Joyce on 5498 2270 or Denton on 3425 3049.
And be early, this concert will be a booked out!
Conducted by Donna McMahon and guided by Concert Master Christine Davis, the 50 or so players will present “Crowning Glory” – a varied program of old favourites and pieces that we haven’t heard for a while.
‘Dambusters March’, ‘Jerusalem’, ‘Waltzing Matilda’ and ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ will be amongst the selection of old favourites, while the first movement of Haydn’s ‘London Symphony no. 104’, a selection from Handel’s ‘Royal Fireworks Music’ and a grab of Percy Grainger tunes are examples of the works less frequently heard by Mt Mee audiences. And believe it or not, there will even be a collection of old music hall favourites like ‘Daisy Bell’, ‘I Do Like to be Beside the Seaside’ and the haunting ‘Daddy Wouldn’t Buy me a Bow Wow’!
It will be a packed program with something for every taste, and it will conclude with the traditional SCSO vocal segment for audience and orchestra! So get those vocal cords polished and well lubricated in good time for the event……..
The guest soloist Renat Yusuprow will perform the first movement of Edward Elgar’s ‘Cello concerto’. Renat learned his trade at the Uzbekistan State Conservatorium and played with the Uzbekistan National Symphony Orchestra and Russian St Petersburg Orchestra before migrating to Australia in 1999 to become a professional ‘cello teacher. He is currently employed as Instrumental Music Coordinator at Rothwell’s Mueller College. Renat is no stranger to Mt Mee, having performed here with the gifted violinist Atilla Sautov.
Donna McMahon, the orchestra’s new conductor, is highly qualified. Donna was given a solid musical grounding at school in Toowoomba – completing her A.Mus.A on both piano and violin. During four years at the Queensland ‘Con’ she simultaneously became the busy Concert Master of the ‘Con’ Orchestra, the Concert Orchestra of Brisbane and of the Queensland Youth Orchestra on its 1972 international tour. Donna then settled in Townsville, commencing the ‘Instrumental Program for State Schools’. She quickly became involved in youth and community orchestras throughout the North and westward to Mt Isa. She completed her Masters in Music in 2002 and is currently resident at Beerwah. Donna teaches violin and piano at several district schools.
Christine Davis, a veteran of the Queensland Youth Orchestra, is now Concert Master for the SCSO. ‘Chrissie’ fits teaching violin and viola into a busy life as wife and mother to a young family and although she has been a member of the SCSO since the beginning of 2011, she is also active in several smaller community orchestras around the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland.
This is another non- profit community event organized by the Mt Mee Public Hall Inc and sponsored by the Moreton Bay Regional Council.
