Oct2013_Warm weather a boost for Ocean View Estates vineyards
Ocean View Estates’ Thomas and Kate Honnef are predicting that their 2014 vintage could be the best yet, after the warm winter weather brought the vines out of dormancy two weeks earlier than usual – and with the early bud burst comes a longer growing season and more intense flavours.
It also means that right now is a great time to visit, and join Thomas and Kate on one of their famous Walk a While with the Winemaker tours, which have been featured on Channel 7’s The Great Southeast.
“This is a beautiful time in the winemaking season,” Kate said. “The vines are flowering, and if you haven’t been on a tour of the property yet, now’s the time to do it.”
On the Walk a While with the Winemaker tour, Thomas leads guests through the vineyards where they taste wines in the vineyards they were grown in, before heading back to the winery where you can get closer to the winemaking action with tasting from the vats.
The tour includes six different wines along with a selection of perfectly-matched food for the ultimate wine and food experience.
Ocean View Estates is the only place in Australia you can experience this type of winery tour – and the best part for us is that it’s right here on our doorstep!
The tour is unbeatable value at just $50 per person. The next scheduled tour is for Saturday November 23, but if you get together a group of 15, you can book for a time that suits you.
If you would like to take a less formal tour, Cellar Door staff run free winery tours Wednesday to Sunday at 11am, after which you can take a walk through the vineyards to admire the views.
Wine tasting is available at the Cellar Door Wednesday to Sunday, and it’s worth a visit to see for yourself why it has been named Queensland’s Cellar Door of the Year for the last two years at the Queensland Wine Awards.
If you have friends or relatives visiting this part of the world, Ocean View Estates now has pet-friendly accommodation, available for bookings from 1st November, in the newly-completed luxury Winemaker’s Cottage. The five bedroom cottage can be adapted to suit couples or larger groups, and is fully-fenced to accommodate our four-legged family members.
Don’t forget the Laid-back-locals menu is still available Thursday and Friday nights, with all meals under $20 and free dessert with children’s meals. Make sure you phone before 6pm to book and ask for the special Laid-back-locals menu to order from.
