Obituary – Dan Wruck

Dan Wruck lost his life in a farm accident on his Hausmann Rd property on 24th September.  He lost control of his Suzuki Stockman while planting out Stargass runners on a newly dozed hillside track and was crushed as the vehicle rolled down the hillside.

Dan was born in Nambour in 1953 and grew up on the family’s small farm near Gympie.  His love of the land and his skills with livestock and in growing things never left him, even though he became an analytical chemist and spent his working life with Queensland Health Scientific Services.  Before long Dan was in charge of a section of the large laboratory complex at Coopers Plains, working primarily with water quality issues ranging from the Barrier Reef to stock waters in Western Queensland.
His love of the land never left him though, and almost twenty years ago he bought a run down block of some 150 acres of Mt Mee scrub soil.  As a part time farmer, he set about bringing it back into order.  This was hard toil and his weekends were very full, but his enthusiasm for the job was enormous and his excitement as he met with success was just wonderful to see.
Although he was a part time resident, he took great interest in Mountain community matters, looking forward to the day when he could retire from government employ and live on his property full-time.
He was thoughtful, caring and immensely popular and there was standing room only at his funeral service in the packed Mt Mee Hall.
Dan is survived by his wife Tina, his son Ben and his daughter Angeline.
