Nov2013_The Blokes of Old Mill Do the Mo’

If there’s one thing the blokes of Old Mill Animal Hospital know how to do, it’s support a good cause; but usually it’s involving animal welfare or pro bono wildlife work.  This November, the guys will put down their razors and pass around the hat in support of ‘Movember’ – a unique international charity supporting men’s health initiatives.
The Movember concept started with a few colleagues refusing to shave their facial hair for a full month, in return for donations from friends and family.  It is now a worldwide celebration of terrible moustaches and goatees, all for a good cause.
Dr Slade, Dr Trent, Dr Warren, Dr John and Joe the Equine Technician will all be looking like cavemen for the month-long event, so we encourage you to pop into the clinic to support the guys with a small donation.  If you haven’t met them before, forget the facial hair and get to know them for their special interest areas:
Dr Slade is the Principal Veterinarian, experienced in both small and large animal medicine, but spends most of his time performing routine and referral Equine Dental procedures and surgery.  Some of you may not know this, but Dr Slade actually started his career doing Dairy Herd Health, and is very experienced in all aspects of large animal medicine and surgery.
Dr Trent usually looks like a young whipper-snapper, so perhaps the Movember moustache will make him look as experienced as he really is!  With years of intense racetrack work under his belt, Dr Trent brings some incredible skill with horse lameness examinations, colic treatment, and other large animal emergency treatments to the team.  He is also very interested in all things to do with reproduction, equine and small animal – so if you’re a breeder, he’s your man!
Dr Warren is our new recruit, with a wealth of experience in all aspects of small animal surgery.  Warren came to our attention as a whiz with diagnostic ultrasounds and orthopaedic surgeries, and if you want to make him feel really welcome to his new home in Dayboro, talk to him about Rugby Union!
Dr John came to us all the way from the UK, having run his own specialist centre for many years.  He is now focussing on becoming a Dermatology Specialist in Australia, and we are lucky enough to have Dr John consulting and performing surgeries at the Old Mill.
So if you see the Old Mill boys during Movember, don’t cross the street to get away from the shady-looking characters!  Just wish them well with their charity challenge and spare a dollar or two where you can.  To watch the transformations, join us at www.facebook.com/oldmillvet
