Nov2013_A LIONS TALE
The Dayboro Lions Community movie, Smurf 2, ran as usual due to the excellent team spirit of Lions members, who step into roles when the co-ordinators were late back from holidays.
The next movie will be on Saturday 23rd November, when we will screen Dreamworks’ Turbo.
All else remains the same: In the Community Hall, $6 adult, $18/family, doors open 6:30, screening starts at 7:00pm, chips, chocolate, popcorn, drinks available. Email Dayboro.lions@gmail.com, or phone 0466 619 660 for info.
The October business meeting was a very busy time when much support expenditure was approved, including:
Our significant annual contribution to the Dayboro School end-of-year booklet;
A large contribution to a local soccer-playing youth who was selected to represent Queensland,
A contribution to the Combined Churches Community Chest which provides food hampers to the needy,
Sand for a sandpit for the Dayboro Rascals,
Ongoing support via the Sellin Fund for some chronically ill patients to fund their necessary regular visits to hospital for treatment. (The Sellin fund is available for members of the Dayboro Community who have to attend hospital regularly. These applications are assessed by a committee)
We have also applied for, and received a grant to upgrade the Samsonvale Christmas tree lights, which we hope to install for this year.
We have many events we support and run in the lead-up to Christmas. New initiatives are always welcome. Our club is an easy-going outfit, very ‘Dayboro’! Meetings are held in the Uniting Church hall on the second Wednesday of each month, and begin at 7:00pm. Come along and see what we do.
We have had a few clubs and groups borrowing our equipment, (PA system, bbqs – It is great to see how we can support each other in this close knit community.
The next open dinner meeting is to be in the New Year, as we have our summer recess over the Christmas period. The November meeting will be a wind-down for the end of the year BBQ, to which Lions’ helpers etc have been invited as gesture of thanks for their support.
The Lions are now at the helm of the annual Dayboro Directory; that booklet (which we inherited from Apex) that we all have handy for the first port of call when we require any goods, services or tradies. The advertisers’ fees, after production expenses, go straight back to the community via the Lions, and it is our major source of income, so please support them, and mention that you found them in this directory! We must thank Tracey from North Pine Printing for her massive support and most agreeable help and their thoroughly organised company.
