The Zonta Club of Pine Rivers has received a $4620 grant from “Our Village, Our Community Foundation”, a not-for-profit organisation established by Village Motors Group Petrie in 2012.

The grant will be used to run the R.A.V.E.S (recognise; assess; vocalise; escape; survive) personal safety system programme for all grade 9 students in the Pine Rivers State High School and will be facilitated by Erin Cash and Michael Hall of Sweat Systems.  Erin is a former Detective Sergeant in the Queensland Police Service with specialisations in child abuse, crowd control and combative training methods.
R.A.V.E.S. consists of separate and different three-hour sessions for male and female students covering protective behaviours, basic self-defence principles and escape techniques, also how to handle peer pressure, bullying and defining destructive relationships.
President Dot Patrick of the Zonta Club of Pine Rivers said “we are thrilled to be able to offer this programme once again.  R.A.V.E.S aims to prevent or neutralise violent situations amongst young people, and to stop destructive behaviours which can lead to domestic violence later in life.”
The Zonta Club of Pine Rivers is very grateful to Our Village Foundation for this monetary assistance which  enables the Club to consider extending this programme to another Pine Rivers District State High School.
It also enables the Club to use more of their hard-earned funds to continue to assist women and children in a domestic violence refuge; provide an annual bursary to a female QUT student who is doing well academically but struggling financially;  and to continue to support many other causes which assist women and girls to live safe and productive lives.
