Marks on Cloth meet with Artists after Work

artists_after_work.jpgArt buffs throughout Moreton Bay Region are being treated to two simultaneous art exhibitions at Pine Rivers Regional Art Gallery this July and August.

The exhibitions are Marks on Cloth – an Art Quilt Retrospective by Glenys Mann 1990-2007 and Artists After Work…Moreton Bay Regional Council workmates showing their true colours.

Acting Mayor Greg Chippendale said Marks on Cloth was a touring retrospective exhibition of contemporary quilts by Glenys Mann from Tamworth.

“Glenys Mann has worked for 30 years in this medium and is recognised nationally for her textile art and master classes,” he said.

"Her work is inspired by emotions of the environment, world events and everyday life.”

He said Glenys worked with ‘found’ cloth, namely old wool blankets and silk, which was dyed with natural items like leaves, bark, lichen and any found organic material.

Cr Chippendale said Artists After Work was an exhibition of artworks by more than 40 staff of Moreton Bay Regional Council who spent their leisure time being creative in the visual arts.

“Staff artworks vary from sculpture to oil and water colour paintings, to an extensive range of photography,” he said.

The two exhibitions will be running from Thursday July 10 to Saturday August 24.

Pine Rivers Regional Art Gallery is located at Unit 7/199 Gympie Rd, Strathpine (parking off Mecklam Street).

Gallery Hours are Wednesday to Saturday 11am to 4pm and admission is free.
