MARJORIE SCHNEIDER (nee Kriesch) LEAVES THE DISTRICT
On April 5th, friends and relatives of Marjorie Schneider (Kriesch) gathered at the Samsonvale Hall to say farewell. Marj was the wife of Merv Schneider who was tragically killed at Basin Road corner in 2001.
Marj has been living on the top of the mountain at Kriesch Road, mostly alone, but for the last year or so has been taking care of a relative. She and Merv were well respected in this district and Merv was especially fond of birds. He used to exhibit poultry every year in most of the competitions around Brisbane.
Marj was born Majorie Elizabeth Woodville Kriesch on May 5th 1927. She married Merv in 1947 and although they moved at various times in their early marriage, they ended up on a block in The Basin. Harry Kriesch (father) was the oldest resident in this district for many years and many of the 4th, 5th and 6th generations still live around South Eastern Queensland.
Most of the original Kriesch farm went under Lake Samsonvale and the remainder was divided into three sections. As John and Graham (nephews) sold out and moved away and Reg Kriesch had died, Marj decided to move up to Kingaroy with relatives. She did not drive, and shopping and medical appointments were always a problem so moving into a town became a necessity.
Yvonne Chapman was a great family friend and she spoke warmly of times spent with the family. It was a lively afternoon and many people came to pay Marj a last visit before she moved. We wish her well.
