Mobile Offices
Prior to the last election I made a commitment to be available and accessible to Pine Rivers.  One way I do this is by holding regular Mobile Offices in every suburb of our electorate to provide face to face access to Pine Rivers residents.  This ensures you are able to discuss issues that are important to you and provides me with insight into the community and how I can work harder for you.  If you are interested in the date, time and location of future Mobile Offices and/or similar information please visit www.seathholswich.com or www.facebook.com/SeathHolswichMP
Dayboro State School Inductions
I attended the Dayboro State School Student Leader Induction on the 24th February and wish to congratulate and encourage this years’ Student Leaders once again.  I am certain the school, parents and students are very proud of their achievement and wish them the very best with the year ahead.
BuySmart Competition
Entries are now open for the Office of Fair Trading’s (OFT) 2014 Buy Smart Competition for school-age children.  Young people are increasingly active in the marketplace and exposed to more consumer issues and it is more important than ever for them to develop good financial and consumer habits.  The Buy Smart Competition is a wonderful opportunity for young people to develop their consumer awareness skills so they can make smart consumer choices both now and in the future. To enter the Buy Smart Competition, students must research a consumer issue and develop a creative presentation to share their new knowledge with their peers.  Cash prizes will be awarded in three categories for years 4-6, years 7-9 and years 10-12.  Entries to this competition close Friday the 12th of September, 2014.
Grant Funding Success
I would like to extend my congratulations to the Dayboro Trail Riders and Ocean View Rural Fire Brigade for their recent successful grant applications from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.  I am sure this funding will be beneficial to the entire community. For further information about applying for funding from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, go to http://www.olgr.qld.gov.au/grants/programs/community/
Literacy & Numeracy Funding for Dayboro State School
Dayboro State School was recently allocated $81,892 funding for literacy and numeracy as part of the Great Results Guarantee.  A majority of funding will be targeted at the early years of school, which research shows is the most vital time in a child’s learning.
Principals, in consultation with their school communities, would develop an agreement which would be entered into with the Director General of the Department of Education, Training and Employment.  We want parents and carers to be part of this process and set their expectations for what they want their children to achieve.  The school can then develop a plan to achieve those outcomes.
This funding is for 2014 with similar funding to be made available each year for at least the next four years.
Pine Cup – Congratulations Cowboys
Congratulations to the Dayboro Cowboys for winning the 2014 Rugby League Pine Cup.  It’s great to see the Cup won by a team in my electorate, and I’ve taken the opportunity to rub it in to neighbouring MPs whose teams didn’t bring home the silverware!
