Lawn or no lawn?

We did love that rain!

And now get into the garden and cut the high grass! Go on Dad, or are you doing it Mum?  This weather promotes growth which is lovely for our plants but those lawns need constant attention if you’d like them to look reasonable. That’s besides those patches where no grass ever wanted to grow anyway!
Well, have you ever thought of what alternatives there are to weekly mowing? Maybe concreting the lot! No, too expensive….and not pretty.
I visualise the yard (see sketch below) while sitting under the covered deck (1). Below the vines hanging from the pergola (2), the large dark pavers (3) break into the mustard colour of the crusher dust (4). Further on I see the bushes of different colour greens (5), splashes of blue, pink and red from the flowers (6). A wide border of compact dark green grass (not the type that needs cutting) is used as edging (7).
Crusher dust, decomposed granite – not pretty names but one possibility of many to reduce a lot of maintenance.
And it’s water wise!
