State Member for Pine Rivers
Pine Rivers Water Forum
In response to many requests and concerns about the cost of water and how various levels of government are responding to price rises, I will be hosting a Water Forum for Pine Rivers residents and business owners on Tuesday 24th June from 2pm to 4pm at Strathpine Community Centre.
Minister for Energy & Water Supply (The Hon Mark McArdle MP) will be in attendance to convey information and answer your questions. For full details, go to www.seathholswich.com or phone my office on 3205 6779 or email pine.rivers@parliament.qld.gov.au . This Forum will be restricted to residents and business owners from the Pine Rivers electorate, to ensure every local has the chance to attend.
Mt Mee Roadworks Update
I have received an update regarding the reconstruction works for Mount Mee Road (near Ocean View Road and Duncan Road) and can now report that works are progressing well and many activities are either underway or nearing completion.
At the Ocean View Road section, the majority of excavation work has been completed. The next stage of work involves the construction of a rock gabion chute along the storm water drain outlet, backfilling the embankment, and drainage works – which will include the construction of a culvert headwall and the reinstatement of drainage pipes. This will be followed by pavement and asphalt works from mid-June to mid-July.
At Duncan Road, slope stabilisation work is in the final stages. Gabion work and backfilling the embankment was completed around the 16th May, 2014. The next stage involves drainage work and kerb construction which will be followed by pavement works.
While reconstruction work is underway, one traffic lane will be closed at both sites, and traffic control will be in place 24-hours-a-day. Motorists are advised to obey traffic signage and signals at all times. This project will hopefully be completed by mid-July 2014, weather and construction conditions permitting.
Pine Rivers Lego Expo 2014 – This Weekend
Following the success of last year’s BrisBricks Pine Rivers Lego Expo, it is returning to Strathpine Community Centre on the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend (7th to 9th June). If you have children, grandchildren, or are a fan of Lego, plan to attend this fantastic event. Last year’s event was attended by nearly 7,000 people and raised $17,000 for local community organisations. Tickets can be booked online at www.trybooking.com/EPFV or at the door over the weekend. As an added bonus…I have been working on a Lego model of Old Parliament House over the past year, and will be exhibiting it at the Expo! Who says Lego is just for children?!
State Budget 2014
By the time this edition of the Grapevine is available, the 2014 State Budget will have been delivered by Treasurer Tim Nicholls. I will be providing summaries of how the budget impacts Pine Rivers on my Facebook page and website, and will be sending a budget edition of my newsletter to the entire electorate in late June/early July. My column in July will also have further information about important budget announcements.
North Pine Region Tourism Survey
If you haven’t already had your say, then make sure you complete my local tourism survey before Friday 20th June. Go to www.surveymonkey.com/s/northpinetourism or call my office on 3205 6779 for a printed copy. Completing the survey puts you in the draw to win prizes including an accommodation package from the award-winning Ocean View Estate Winery.
Once the survey results are compiled, they will be used as the basis of a tourism campaign to promote our region throughout South-East Queensland. This is part of my commitment to boost tourism in our region and to support local businesses.
Ministerial Appointment
I am humbled and honoured to be given the opportunity to serve Queensland as the Assistant Minister for Natural Resources and Mines. I look forward to the opportunity to serve in this role, providing support to Minister Cripps.
The Newman Government has a strong plan for a brighter future for Queensland and I look forward to playing my part in ensuring that brighter future for Pine Rivers and Queensland.
