June2014_Dear Editor_letter 2 of 2

I would like to express my thanks and gratitude to the kind-hearted people of Dayboro who stopped to help me when I drove into a ditch on the side of the road in the pouring rain.
It has taken one and a half years to put pen to paper, but I still thought it worthy of a mention.

The situation was early 2013 when we had a lot of rain and flooding.  I was driving to Church on that Sunday morning, and was not far from Dayboro when I hit water pouring across the road and ended up with the nose of my car pointing down the bank on the side of the road.

I was totally amazed at the number of families and single people even, who pulled over in the torrential rain to offer me assistance.

People risked getting saturated to come and see if I was okay, and one lady did so, offering me an umbrella and wondering if she could wait with me while help came.
I was so impressed at the response of so many people to my dilemma.  It really touched my heart.

Help came in a way I wasn’t expecting, when a man named Alastair offered to winch me out.  He got soaked doing so, shrugged off my thanks, and got on his way.
What a caring community to live in.  Thank you everyone!  God bless you.

Beatrice Thomas.
