June2014_Business Achiever award for 2014: Barr Tapper Pty Ltd

 – Rural Fencing and Weed Spraying.
Selwyn Barr and Lee Tapper
(Apologies – This should read as "Business Recognition Award")
This is just part of the reason for this businesses selection:
Volunteer firefighters with the Dayboro District Rural Fire Brigade, Selwyn and Lee continuously demonstrate their generosity, making their business resources available to the brigade as required – for hazard reduction burns (HRB) as well as wildfires.

This includes – but is not limited to – a dozer, a tractor, a 700 little spray rig with two 150 metre hoses where are remote controlled.  Once very big truck is also required to get this equipment to and from the fire-ground.  They provide this equipment, fuel to run the machines and their time – all at no charge to the brigade or the community.  There is also the cost of maintenance and replacement of lost or damaged parts which they ’absorb’.  This equipment is also used in preparation for HRB’s which includes putting in firebreaks, creating stacks as well as fighting the fires.

Selwyn also volunteers for deployment which again takes him away from earning income through his business.  During these deployments their employees are also unable to work, but are still paid in Selwyn’s absence.

As Secretary and Volunteer Educator for the brigade, Lee dedicates many hours that could otherwise be supporting their business and income.  As 3rd Officer for the brigade, Selwyn also has additional responsibilities.

Barr/Tapper has been providing this support to the brigade and community for more than 10 years.  Selwyn’s business prior to becoming Barr/Tapper provided similar support for the previous 28 years.

Barr/Tapper also provide support and sponsorship for  the Dayboro Show where they sponsor the Wood chop event;  Lee assists with Pony Club events and Selwyn delivers cattle to and from the show for the team Penning event – at no charge.  They are also both very involved with the Rodeo.

The Dayboro Rodeo and other factors were also taken into consideration when Selwyn received the Resident of the Year Award in 1996, and his community involvement continues, ably supported by Lee Tapper.

Congratulations – Well deserved.
