June2014_A LIONS TALE
MOVIES:
Next Movie 21st June “Planes”
Well, the new-system movies went without a problem – in fact it was very pleasing. It resembled Noah’s Ark, as so many young attendees turned up in their ‘onesies’ of animal characters! The buzz of the 170+ audience in the hall was most gratifying, as were the compliments given, and there was an applause at the end 🙂
Our oldest cinema-goer, Olive, had her very senior nonagenarian birthday celebrated by an impromptu Lions choir leading the audience during the intermission with a ‘happy birthday’ chorus there. Ahhhh.
We are looking to activate a surround-sound system, and replacing the old screen with a high-gain surface to increase the brightness in dark movies. We will also have lead-in trailers, maybe cartoons etc. as we develop the system.
Next movie to be screened will be on Sat 21st June, Disney’s Planes. Entry: $6pp, $18 per family. Doors open 6:30pm. Start 7:00pm.
CHANGEOVER DINNER – June 28th
Lions annual changeover dinner is on Sat 28th June. It is a celebratory evening where achievements are reviewed and the new, or returning executive are committed for the next year. It will be held at the Bowls Club, and the meal and evening will cost $25pp. Everyone important attends, and if you wish to join us for this, to see how the Lions work or just join in the celebration, then email dayboro.lions@gmail.com or phone 0466 619 660 for an invitation.
This event replaces our monthly open dinner meeting, where we were last month educated and entertained by our own Pharmacist, the enthusiastic Andrew Harvey.
OTHER NEWS:
Dayboro Day would have come and gone by Grapevine deadline date, and we hope you enjoyed our hot dogs, served from the Lions hot-dog pie-cart. We are proud to use local products – bread rolls from the bakery, meat frankfurts from the butchers, drinks from IGA, and even ice from the garage. So, with all profits going back to our community, a purchase really shows the local spirit!
Dayboro Day Festival is a key event for Dayboro Lions, with the replica carriage in the Parade and the lollies distributed; our gallant efforts in the raft race for which the enthusiasm is ignited by ex-APEX Lions; the poo-shovelling at the end of the parade; and with the behind-the-scenes logistic support in set up and clear up, (including sponsoring the Scout group on a litter pick).
Lions are sorry to see the passing of Coralie Heathwood, and chose to show our appreciation of her support for the Lions on service events by accepting her wishes to send a sizeable donation to Cancer Research.
